“New Tarmac laid, thanks to generous support”

Crewe and South Cheshire Motor Club have now completed the latest upgrade to the popular Tonfanau Race Track in Mid Wales. The club have held a number of fund raising activities throughout 2011 and have received further support from riders and fellow sports enthusiasts that have enabled them to re-lay a substantial part of the surface from the Finish Line, through Paddock Bend and on to the Starting Grid.

Club spokesman Lee Heeson said " We are delighted with the new surface. We worked closely with the contractors and they have managed to reduce the previous road biased camber with a more track focused profile that should significantly improve the rider's feel for the circuit."

The 1.1 mile track was originally the perimeter road to an Army Training Camp. Lee Heeson saw the potential circuit from the top of a local hill, whilst on holiday in the area. The deserted camp was being demolished and returned to green fields but Lee's enthusiasm and drive eventually led to the first Race meeting being held in April 1993. Since that time, the surface has been re-laid and improved through club funds and, with the help of a team of committed volunteers, this most picturesque circuit now looks forward to a long and successful future.

The Club would like to express their gratitude to those individuals and businesses who have supported them and extend a warm welcome to racers old and new!
